Friends of St. Vincent Society

The Congregation of the Mission Western Province has established the Friends of St. Vincent de Paul cumulative lifetime giving levels to acknowledge those friends who have set an example by their loyal and generous support. All donors are recognized in special ways at each giving level. Listed here are the first four giving levels. Those names in bold are friends that are new to that particular giving level.

Perboyre Level ($25,000 +)
John Gabriel Perboyre (1802-1840) priest, martyr of the Congregation of the Mission. He was a prisoner in China during the persecution of Christianity. He was quoted as saying, “I would sooner die than deny my faith!” With that the judge pronounced his sentence: John Gabriel Perboyre was put to death by strangulation.

De Jacobis Level ($15,000 to $24,000)
Justin De Jacobis (1800-1860) served as the director of seminarians in Naples where he was remembered for emphasizing his personal prayer. He served as a Vincentian missionary in Ethiopia from 1839 until his death. He is considered an apostle to Africa, and the founder of the Abyssinian mission.

Marillac Level ($10,000 to $14,999)
Louise de Marillac (1591-1660) widowed in 1625, she chose St. Vincent de Paul as her spiritual director. She helped direct the Ladies of Charity in their work of caring for the sick, poor and neglected. In 1634 she took her vows and became the first Superior of the newly formed Daughters of Charity.

Ozanam Level ($5,000 to $9,999)
Frederic Antoine Ozanam (1813-1853) was one of the original founders of the Conference of Charity, later known as the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. He has been revered since as an exemplar of the lay apostle in family, social and intellectual life. At his death, the membership numbered about 15,000. Today it numbers 650,000, serving the poor in 142 countries, a living monument to Frederic Ozanam and his companions.
