A Prayer of St. Vincent

To Imitate Christ in Everyday Life

O my Savior Jesus Christ, you sanctified yourself so that we, too, might be sanctified.

You shunned earthly kingship with its wealth and glory, because all you had at heart was your Father’s kingdom in the hearts of all people.

With you before our eyes as our model, how can we ever imitate you who have raised us from our sinful state and called us to live by your counsels, and to strive for perfection!

O Lord, help us to walk in your footsteps; give us the grace to follow your example which will lead us to seek the kingdom of God and its justice, and to leave all other concerns in his care.

See to it that your Father’s kingdom be established in us, and reign in our hearts yourself by making us remain in you through faith, hope, and charity, through humility and the spirit of obedience, and through being in union with your divine majesty.

In that way, Lord, we shall have reason to hope that one day we ourselves may reign in your glory, merited for us through the shedding of your precious blood.
