Father Louis Arceneaux, CM, (far right) was impressed with the Vincentian Family and larger Catholic community on his first visit to Kenya. He is pictured with the current class of six Vincentian novices from Kenya and Cameroon, and novice director Father Barry Moriarty, CM, (second from right), at DePaul Centre in Nairobi. A Visit to KenyaThe following is an excerpt from the travel diary of Father Louis Arceneaux, CM, of the Southern Province of the Congregation of the Mission, upon his return from a recent trip to Kenya. “At the compound where our Vincentian students, novices, and faculty live, the buildings are comfortable but certainly not luxurious. When they dug a well for their water supply, they were fortunate to hit a pure supply so they are able to drink tap water, something not common in Kenya. “During my stay, I also got to visit our confreres, Fathers John Richardson, Frank Agnew and Robert Wood, CMs, who teach at the diocesan seminary in Nyeri, about three hours north of Nairobi. The living situation for the confreres there is quite a bit more primitive than in Nairobi; it is an older building and the tap water is not potable until it is boiled or purified.” |
