Vincentian Family Represented at National Institute
Attending the North American Institute for Catholic Evangelization (NAICE) were: (back left to right): Fr. Tom Stehlik, CM; Fr. Jim Osendorf, CM; Fr. John Sledziona, CM; Sr. Catherine Salani, DC; Fr. Ray Van Dorpe, CM; Fr. Jack Cawley, CM; and (front left to right): Fr. Rich Wehrmeyer, CM, Fr. Tony Kuzia, CM; Fr. Lou Arceneaux, CM; Fr. John Kehoe, CM; Fr. Dan Borlick, CM. Ten members of the Vincentian Family were present in Portland, Oregon, July 9-13, 2003, to participate in the North American Institute for Catholic Evangelization (NAICE). Sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Institute was designed to flow out of Paul VI’s Evangelii Nuntiandi and the US Bishops’ Go and Make Disciples that all ministries must be seen through the lens of evangelization. The plan for NAICE is built on two phases: the first phase is for Church leadership, and this was the focus of the meeting in Portland. In addition to informal networking and time together, there were three major components to this Institute: major presentations, table discussions and panel responses. Phase Two will use diocesan resources and be held in dioceses throughout the country. The Portland gathering was held at the University of Portland, and included participants from over 110 U.S. dioceses, Canada, Latin America, and the United Kingdom. Representatives from all five Vincentian provinces and one province of the Daughters of Charity gathered for a special luncheon to share their impressions and experiences of the Institute. They also engaged in some creative brainstorming about furthering the work of evangelization within the entire Vincentian Family. Vincentian is published bimonthly by the Midwest and Southern Provinces of the Congregation of the Mission, the Vincentian Priests and Brothers, to promote the apostolic works of its members and those of the larger Vincentian Family.
