Perryville Celebrates Historic Anniversaries

Last November, the Vincentian Fathers and Brothers, along with other members of the Vincentian Family, celebrated the 190th anniversary of the founding of St. Mary’s of the Barrens in Perryville, Missouri. It was from this point that the Congregation of the Mission began its American mission, which has since spread across North, Central, and South America. To mark the event a special Mass was offered, and roses were placed on the tombstone of Father Felix de Andreis, CM, the first superior of the mission in America.

Also last November, the Association of the Miraculous Medal celebrated 100 years of being an officially recognized organization within the Catholic Church. A special Mass and luncheon was celebrated at The Shrine Church. Reverend James Swift, CM, Provincial Superior, along with other Vincentians, Association employees, and special friends attended the event. There are Associations in 50 countries around the globe.

The Vincentian is published bimonthly by the Midwest and Southern Provinces of the Congregation of the Mission, the Vincentian Priests and Brothers, to promote the apostolic works of its members and those of the larger Vincentian Family.
