On January 25, 2010, the Provinces of the South, Midwest and West were joined to become the new Western Province. As the day dawned nothing seemed different, yet everything was new.

Many of the faces gathered for the recent convocation in San Antonio at the end of January were familiar. Priests and brothers reunited, worked and prayed together.  Led by the Superior General from Rome, Very Reverend Gregory Gay, CM, Vincentians from points in the Midwest, South and West – and as far away as Kenya – celebrated Mass, gathered for reflection and opened their hearts to a new beginning.

LogoSt. Vincent’s Legacy: A Federation of Charity

Last year’s Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, September 27, inaugurated the year that ends with the 350th anniversary of his death in 1660.

As the Saint faced death he must have looked back in thanks for what God’s grace accomplished through him – the works for the poor, the reform of the clergy and the foundation of associates in charity: the Congregation of the Mission, the Daughters of Charity and the Ladies of Charity. As
a man with such an impressive legacy to pass on, he also must have wondered how long his works would fare after his death. If Providence wanted them to remain, they would continue; if not, they would disappear.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Perhaps as you read this letter, the words of St. Paul read at the Ash Wednesday liturgy are still echoing inside you: “In an acceptable time
I heard you, and on the day of salvation I helped you.” The future day of the Lord has become the “today”.  The terrible day is transformed by the Cross and Resurrection of Christ into the day of salvation.

Fr. McIntyreFather Thomas J. McIntyre, CM, 1919 – 2009

The son of Thomas J. McIntyre and Ellen Walsh, Father Thomas J. McIntyre, CM, was born in Chicago on August 17, 1919.

Fr. McIntyre entered the Congregation of the Mission on October 17, 1942, and professed perpetual vows on October 18, 1944. He was ordained a priest in the Congregation of the Mission at St. Mary’s Seminary, Perryville, Missouri, on June 4, 1950.
