FassbenderRev. Dart Fassbender, CM 1911-2003

Rev. Dart Fassbender, CM, a native of New Orleans, died peacefully at the age of 92 as he was taking a nap on September 30, 2003. For several years, he was a resident at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center on the Westbank of New Orleans. Those of us who were able to visit him were always impressed with his quick, humorous response. The comments that were made over e-mail and at his funeral highlighted his sense of integrity, hard work and honesty.

Ordained on June 5, 1938, at St. Mary's Seminary, he was first assigned to Cardinal Glennon College and then slated to travel to Rome for further studies. World War II changed those plans and he became the treasurer at St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville from 1939 to 1946. He became so skilled at this job that he was then transferred to Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, where he spent the next 40 years of his life in the treasurer's office.

In 1986, Dart retired to the provincial house in Houston, Texas, and helped in financial matters.  He eventually moved to DePaul Residence in New Orleans. We will all miss Dart for his quick wit and sharp eye while holding us to our budgets. Dart was a deeply spiritual man who enjoyed being at the service of others.
