Prayers for VocationsBy Father David Nations, CM Over the past 6 months, I have spent much of my time traveling across the country to promote prayers for vocations. Handing Vincentian VocationsO my God, set hearts on fire with the desire to serve You! You call men and women to evangelize those around us, in imitation of Our Lord Jesus Christ. When your son lived in this world, all his thoughts were for the salvation of all people. Teach me by your son’s example, to set the world on fire. Help me to enkindle people’s hearts with that same zeal for the salvation of souls. Luke 4:17-21 Jesus stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” O Divine Savior, As I reflect on these words, I offer You the names of those — Pause — Lord grant that I may become your servant. Through your spirit, Lord God, In every age You have blessed your church with holy and faithful servants to shepherd your people. Send us today a new generation who answer the call to serve as priests and brothers in the “little company” of St. Vincent de Paul. May we be true to your mission as we strive, together, to follow Jesus Christ, Evangelizer of the Poor. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. |
